album rips actually. Kaleidoscope and the closer are some of the best electronic/soft stuff they've ever done. keep seeing people wanting them to do straight phxc and it's like that's... not what this band has ever been lol. they're always gonna do the weird shit folks
|
| |
I'm happy for them to keep on keeping on - I just miss Circa Survive. I still listen to Circa Survive's whole discog pretty often.
|
| |
oh I absolutely miss Circa everyday too and am still devastated about how that went down. I would just never expect TSOAF to fill that void, they're a completely different thing
|
| |
mwY broke up so I was like okay, Circa is my favorite band now
And then Circa broke up like a month later lmao

Honestly this is some of the best AG work in years. I didn't care much for him in the last Saosin album or L.S. Dunes, but he sounds great with this band.

I'm just glad they don't have him as the singular vocalist and Balling as the once-in-a-while back up vox. Continuing to have them trade off was one of the few good choices on this album.
|
| |
Ant and Keith trading vox on Kanda is so sick too. just wish they'd let Embree take the mic sometimes too it has been too long since RXB released anything
@slex extremely rough lol. at least mwY came to a natural end where Circa imploded after releasing some of their best stuff. still haunts me

| |
I saw mwY at their last Toronto show. I still have a dried flower arrangement that he threw out into the crowd :')

Pardon my unintended ignorance but how does rearranging songs on the album that you don’t like make it more enjoyable? No matter how I place them, still don’t like what I’m hearing

they like what they're hearing, just not the order they're hearing it lol

I don't think pacing is a very difficult concept to grasp.

I made a slight edit to my tracklist; but yeah I'm pretty sure it flows well now for me.
@MrxSelfxDestruct Exactly! I don't know why some keep pretending track order doesn't affect the overall listening experience.

This has grown on me a bit. I still am not a fan of the electronic stuff or even the non-Anthony ones in general, but somehow arranging the tracks and spacing out the slower second half makes this seem more nuanced, balanced, and experinental...like magic.

@Sowing I'm curious; what's your tracklist? Did you also include the EP?

they should pay yall a consulting fee.

I started with your tracklist then modified it a bit further for my liking (mainly dispersing the heavier/beefier tracks even more):
The Maiden
Pretty Like Cake
Evil Sprites
Kaleidoscope
Bangladesh
Chyrsanthemum
Lady of the Cosmos
The Horror
Kanda
The Fall of Western Civilization
Still like how yours ends with Lady leading into The Fall, but I can't find a way to reaarrange The Horror and Kanda into the early tracklist without feeling like there's too many unnecessary detours. This arrangement keeps me invested the entire time, even if the conclusion is a little more softspoken than if Lady was the penultimate.
|
| |
the sounds from the end of each song lead so well into the next that it hurts my head trying to think of rearranging it

@Sowing yeah, totally get where you're coming from. i do love "kanda" before "lady" so breaking that for me is difficult. in this version of yours i would probably still switch it after "chysanthemum" lol
using the apeshit ep gives you far more chances for a more balanced tracklist, and it has the same exact production values so those songs fit seamlessly
