Ok yeah, this is pretty weird but honestly im kinda digging this first track. Drums are great, weird 80s synths, kinda funky

Things we tell ourselves in the dark is also an early favourite for me too.
Beautifully Human though....what a closer.
Still too much of this album hasn't sunk in yet though. Only 2nd listen through.

I hope the tradition of Hawks hating BTBAM albums never ends :D.

First impression of this was very meh, and I loved Colors II. Might need to give it another spin to see if it sinks in.

def struggling with this one compared to colors 2 but its starting to grow
unlike the last two albums, this one is feels made for the true btbam sickos for better or worse. prob as self indulgent as anything they've ever done
things we tell ourselves in the dark & absent thereafter are two instant btbam classics.

The last album I genuinely enjoyed from this band was Parallax II. I got 10 seconds into this album before I decided I probably wasnt going to genuinely enjoy this one either.

"There's no way I'm going to fully get everything about this album in 1 sitting. This album is weird even for BTBAM standards."
This is a totally fair assessment--it definitely took me a few spins to land where I did.
"unlike the last two albums, this one is feels made for the true btbam sickos for better or worse. prob as self indulgent as anything they've ever done"
I agree a lot with this. Colors II felt more focused and reigned in than this one did--the wacky parts on that album had more of a purpose and weren't necessarily just thrown in for the sake of existence. This album feels like they had trouble containing everything in a polished way. It's still very good, though.

Absent thereafter definitely my favorite so far of the first 3

Colors II was a boring as shit album. It was bland, formulaic, and agonizingly complacent. Btbam albums are meant to challenge the listener, not to be easily consumed.

yeah that's a very true statement whether you like this album or not. as much as i like those albums, they could make automatas and colors 2s in their sleep, but they are swinging for the fences here in a way they really haven't done since (i'd argue) p2

Couldn't agree more.

Spun this a few times now, unfortunately isn't really hitting for me outside of the first few and last two tracks

Spun this a couple times yesterday and have been sitting with it for a little bit. So far I like that they're exploring a lot of territory they've dabbled with in the past. Some of those elements are a lot quirkier than I like my death metal (see my most recent list) but these guys are at the very foundation of my musical passion so it's fine with their sheen over it. Plenty of excellent riffs as usual and also reminds me of Coma Ecliptic which was a record I really loved for its adventurousness. I'm going in for a third listen before I give a rating though.

I like this a lot on first impressions - definitely their most focused release in a long time. I'm sure this may grow to become one of my favourites out of all their releases.
