Appreciate the comments! To nobody's surprise, everyone on the dgd subreddit seems to be praising this thing to the high heavens and back. Not really sure what they're hearing, this is somehow a bigger slog to get through than Jackpot Juicer which had 18 tracks. Maybe I'm still naively hoping they'll somehow but out a record as fun and diverse as DBM II or Happiness one day, but that seems unlikely at this point.

First half of this is definitely a mixed bag with a lot of cringe, but maaan does it pick up with A Shoulder to Cry On and doesn't let up from there. Second half of that song is legitimately my favorite thing they've done since Mothership.
Great review as always bro, hope this one grows on you. At least the last run of tracks, Shoulder in particular.

Now where's that Secret Band LP3

What is Kurt Travis up to these days anyway?"
Quite a bit even in the 2020s! Solo touring, touring/one-off shows with A Lot Like Birds, vocals for Royal Coda (with Will Swan, so not far off DGD), Gold Necklace (imo a big yawn)
I forgot about Royal coda. That was actually a very solid album

Bordering on a 3.2 on first listen, Space cow is awful. Last 4 or 5 tracks are decent though

Space Cow is laughably bad
Realistically this is more of a 3 but I love A Shoulder to Cry On so much

Aight, I don't hate this musically at all. lots of good parts. the new vox are completely bland and uninspired. they don't add or subtract anything here. just something to flutter through the music. this is a firm, solid, rubber stamped 3.

It's just okay. A few good tracks here and there, but a lot of bad to just laughably cringe choices for some of the songs. I like Andrew but he really doesn't add anything interesting to the formula. Speaking of the formula, the instrumentals sound so phoned in. Nothing that stands out or is that memorable here, at least in a positive way.

Much better than I thought it would be based off the singles. I didn’t care for any of them but thought the rest of this was awesome. Kinda wonder why they even included the singles

That wierd auto tune really grinds my gears. Better than jackpot juicer at least.

While I’m enjoying the whole thing, don’t sleep on the second half

Space Cow is dumb as shit but at least they're trying weird shit again which is a big relief. same with whatever Will is doing on Conqueror Worm lol
replace McGuffys with Speed Demon and this thing gets so much better, fuck that song is terrible

awesome review. band has run its course and is woefully unnecessary at this point

I found the album to be amazing. Love the versatility of Jon's screams and especially his clean singing on A Shoulder to Cry On. Andrew is such welcomed addition to DGD glad they chose him to take over.

Mcguffeys is fun and the best of the singles but many things could be replaced or trimmed down yes

nah I think it's one of the worst songs they've ever put out lol, easily the worst on here. plus Trap Door rips
