Damn I love how dark this album is, it's growing onto me a lot.

Album is pretty sick. Really dig the post hardcore influence on here. Love the opener and the song with B Murph

I dug around a bit and Chris Teti the TWIABP guitarist is apparently the big metalcore guy. Between Illusory Walls and this one he toured on live bass with END, who feature here along with Counterparts, who are both fronted by Brendan Murphy. Then Church Tongue and of course why not grab Dylan Walker, pretty sure he’d do vocals for anyone who asks him. So he’s clearly got connections in the core scene and Illusory Walls was distinctly more dense for them already.

I think this band pulls off proggy, metallic emo very well. Illusory Walls was very Circa Survive-y IMO, only better. This reminds me a little of what BN did with Daisy and what Foxing did with their S/T. This isn't as abrasive as either of those, but the pivot to this style suits them well nonetheless.

@ghostboobs no. They did 1 ep in 2014 with a spoken word guy.

this rules, opener is one of their best

I like the opener for sure but the closer and reject all are actually god tier

The World is a BTBAM and I am No Longer Afraid to Die
In all honesty I found this rather meh. I really liked their brand of pop-punk/emo before. But I am cool with them experimenting more. This just overall came off as dollar general BTBAM to me. I may give it another spin another time. I really like their prior work. But ehhh this was just so boring

Ah, bummer you didn't like it more but huge departures in style won't always resonate. I'm actually considering bumping my score up. I don't want them to stick with this style, but as a one off it kind of rules.

^It’ll be interesting at live shows for sure. They’re actually really good. I saw them one time. Trying to remember who it was for. Something tells me mewithoutYou? But huge departures can be really cool live experiences as well

I feel the BTBAM comparison - going to have a few thorough listens before rating.

Need to get back to this
Might be their weakest album but it is still a strong effort overall
|
| |
Always Foreign is their easy weakest still I think
|

Saw them live twice, in 2014 with The Hotelier and in 2018 with Pianos Become the Teeth, and both times they were really good. I’d also be interested to see how they’d try to work some of this new stuff into their setlist with the old material.

"But I am cool with them experimenting more. This just overall came off as dollar general BTBAM to me."
This literally sounds nothing like BTBAM lol.

@Rowan Always Foreign is a favorite of mine, but I realize it isn't particularly loved. Meant a lot to me coming out during a pretty odd time in my life

I'll just never forgive them for scoring an Aaron Weiss feature and putting it on one of their most underwhelming songs lol
there's a couple of big tunes on there but the overall album just feels awkward to me. weird transitional moment between two killer albums is basically how I think of it

I legit completely forgot that Aaron Weiss collab'd with these guys lol

The World is a BTBAM and I am No Longer Afraid to Die
Dumbest take of the week we can pack it up and come back on Monday. Album is kinda lame. What a waste of a full of hell feature

wasn't expecting them to get heavy like this, but it's great
