Not sure what to make of this after one listen. Sounds pretty heavy and dreary, which is not what I was expecting from WLTS.

there is like zero meaningful construction or pacing to this album - you could cut it up and rearrange it and it would change nothing, it just sounds like a bunch of post rock pastiche jam sessions tacked together and the last song is an utter waste of time

i guess the third track is the best one cus it makes sense and has some cool shit going on sonically?

Solid album, actually really liked the brooding and claustrophobic aspects of the sound. Still think the new Blak album takes best post-rock of the year so far imo

That decrescendo from like the 10min to 12 min mark of the final track is so good. Kinda crazy they didn't use that to end the album on.

this is a well written review btw but i definitely disagree with the summary - i think it's the wrong direction for the band. they struck gold with departure songs - it made up for instrumentally not being terribly exciting with the extremely emotive themes and dedication to the themes. but they've been unable to strike twice and on a whole they're just not a very compelling instrumental post-rock band. they just don't have the melodic vibrancy to stand out. whether it be by reintroducing vocals or thinking outside the box songwriting wise they just won't step out of the shadow they cast with departure songs unless they do *something*.

DS can't even get a real compliment just a backhanded one. This site is full of people who will literally die on the hill that DS is somehow an awful piece of shit.

This is my fav genre of music so idk it sounds pretty great to me.

I find it interesting that you refer to these hypothetical people rather than me - someone who loves DS and gave it a 4.5.

I’m saying despite the average and despite the love it gets every time I seem to hop on DS threads it’s people trolling or trashing it. Like you even said you love it even though it’s uninteresting musically I was like damn haha

@noctus
Jammin DS now and I can already agree on some degree. It's a rather straightforward cut that manages to hone it's languid bits and inevitable grandiose points to such a sharp edge that its lack of differentiation doesn't really matter. The Last Dive is the only real oddball with an introduction made of, well, bubbles and swooshes and generalized diving sounds lol
