Honestly loving this one. Current Affairs in particular is awesome. I think the writing is really strong across the board, and the production only falters when it's going for an anthemic vibe (What Was That's "dance break" is sooo frustratingly bad). But overall I like how dry and crunchy and sparse these tracks feel

agreed, i like that it's only fleetingly hooky. for a lot of it the album's surprisingly sad (like on current affairs) and either sounding rugged or skeletal while lorde's figuring stuff out. hits pretty hard for me tbh

I'm utterly fascinated by the CD version of this, it's a completely clear disc

Right now it's a 3.0 or 3.5 for me.
This is lean, almost to a fault, as some songs sound unfinished (Man of The Year being the biggest example). But the short runtime is also a strength, as this doesn't overstay its welcome.
Not quite on the same level as Pure Heroine and Melodrama, but it's a nice comeback from the bland and forgettable Solar Power.
What Was That is my favorite song here.

Review is unnecessarily brutal. Album is fine. Saying the interlude a cappella track is the best track here is such a dumb cop out. You don’t have to like it but slapping a 1.5 is disingenuous and ig’nant.
