This is bang on unfortunately, they're very much treading water at this point. Some good tunes in there but they can't keep this up forever.

I fell in love with PUP after listening to dark days for the first time, and loved them even more after learning the story of why "the dream is over" was named like that.

Unfortunately everything after morbid stuff feels much weaker then the first three albums, this included.

Which is sad, because i truly feel like this is (was?) a very unique band.

Yeah insofar it seems as if they're gradually giving into the self-defeatisms they've been so cathartic about projecting in the past, but still it is gradual. Love how the vocals and really everything is sort of reverb drenched and has a distorted rock n roll energy in moments but I do NOT love when they turn off the creative flair for like half the album

IG it's a bit harsh but other than the stark self-loathing one liners the fact that PUP was a pop punk band with deceptively technically proficient riffs was always dope as hell to me and that seems sort of lacking here

find it hilarious that Can't Win (which fwiw is my fav track on Dream on a good day) is the track they self-dunked on for uninspired writing back in the day given how things have gone since
"Can’t think of a band in this lane that has done more than 2 stand out records before degrading consistently per LP though am generalising like a maniac"
Jeff Rosenstock + Ging Nang Boyz (who, weirdly, this album prompted me to follow-up with on the off-chance that their more 'mature' later shit was any good (spoilers: it is))

It’s weird to me that so many Rosenstock fans compare this band’s vibe to his back catalogue and put them in the same room so often. Like, I think their band bromance is all good, but Jeff has been putting out consistently great shit for over two decades. This band didn’t last two albums. I guess you can throw Morbid Stuff in the mix if you really insist. That’s still what… like 5 years of quality music?

fwiw this album gives me the most jeff vibes of any of their work in that quite a few of these tracks reminded me a ton of hellmode. would totally not surprise me to learn that he helped them write this.

Seems I'm in the minority here but I'm absolutely loving this and have listened probably half a dozen times already. Something just clicked. Concrete, Hallways (song wrecks me), Needed to Hear It, Cruel, Best Revenge...all instantly make the list of my favourite PUP songs (it is a big list tbf). Been a fan since the s/t and to me they're just one of the most dependable bands in the game. And ya love the album art so much.

I think the opening pair is just so *ouch* that it skews the vibe for the remainder of the album.

Still bumping 'You Needed to Hear It' on the reg, absolute vintage PUP jam, I'm so bummed the rest of the album lacks that same joie de vivre.
