Flynn gives FFDP guy a run for his money lyrically. Nice review.

I love MH but Unatoned is in my opinion their worst release so far, by a long shot. There have been signs of pure cheesiness in the past ('who we are' and 'Is there anybody out there') but the choruses on this one (Outsider, Bonescraper for example) push the cheese-ometer up a notch.
The last album was excellent if a little soul-less sounding at times and with slight nods to cheese (the bridge in the otherwise superb 'Slaughter the Martyr'), in comparison Unatoned feels unfocused and rushed. I think Robb wasn't sure in which direction to take the band. Curiously though the one track which rises above the others in my opinion is 'Bleeding me dry'. It's a track that shouldn't work but does, combining modern pop stylings with trademark MH riffs and chugging as well as some decidedly non-metal lyrics (as well as paradoxically some of the most metal), the song goes in different directions yet remains cohesive. This track saved the album from total disaster for me.

Would work better as an instrumental album.

Would work better if Flynn went back to his approach from the first two albums and the band wrote less cheesy parts for melodic choruses and 'cleans' (ugh)

This isn’t bad it’s just boring, which is probably worse tbh.

It truly is Eurovision Metal.
Highlight was Dustmaker, ironically.

they’re still on the all uppercase umlaut tiktok songname shit. hopefully they realize that all lowercase no punctuation with a period at the end is the way to appeal to the kiddies.

An assortment of bad, terrible and average songs but some of the tracks here are pretty good.
Overall though, this is quite derivative.

I think I would rather listen to Supercharger, which is saying a lot.
