I feel like this is the best thing I've heard her on, and about on par for Sumac as of late, which is a very high bar. I think her lyrical style is awesome but I wish she would have come out in her vocals a bit more. Yelled a bit. But the effects, pitch shifting, and layering were cool enough.

>first bit of dialogue on track one reminds me of Marc Rebillet

lol I see what you're saying but refuse to meet you in the middle on this

>and the second track is a little clunky in how it transitions between the first and second section of the song

Yeah, this happens a bit with SUMAC, probably a result of sandwiching a variety of takes and parts together in post. Doesnae bother me too much though.

> I wish she would have come out in her vocals a bit more

Yeah, content does a lot of the heavy lifting re: emotional intensity. Maybe she's not built for yelling, idk, but she does bring some bursts of aggression here and there.

I wouldn't have minded the odd isolated screm but the intensity is thicc and all the better for her delivery, for the most part. I dig the approach

It's possible that I'm a Sumac hater, but I can't help but think this project would have been stronger with a different band.

As in the general idea of Moor Mother + metal could've used a different band? Given my extensive ravings here obviously I disagree. Maybe I'd agree if she was trying to spit bars on beat across all of this. As it stands, the way she slides all over the broiling chaos is perfect for me

Yeeeeeessssss dewi, get involved!

I like it, but it doesn’t really deviate from Sumac’s wheelhouse any. All the things they do that have kept me from absolutely loving anything since Love in Shadow are still there. Probably about on par w the Billy woods collab for Moor Mother.

This is the best of their collaboration albums imo but I still got a bit underwhelmed by the second listen.

guess I should check this but will probably check other Sumac first - yet to dive into their discog (maybe been holding off since I've yet to make it through all of the Old Man Gloom catalogue)

check Wrecked, her collab with Justin Broadrick and Kevin Martin as ZONAL (rebranded Techno Animal) - she does vocals on the A side - record still heavy as fuck but electronic as opposed to metal

This is a great sister album to Lulu by Lou Reed and Metallica. I AM THE TABLE.

I think the notion that this doesn't cross any new ground for Sumac isn't quite right. The amount of synth, clean vocals, and the omission of drums in certain places really makes this pretty unique among their output.

I want to like this collab so much but it kills me to say it's like the equivolent of Metallica's Lulu except without sucky musicians.

Yeah, this sounded really interesting on paper, but in execution, it doesn't really coalesce into anything more than Yapping: The Record for me. And it cements for me that Lulu is overhated. It is batshit, but it is entertainingly batshit

“I saw them play this in full last weekend at Roadburn for the grand reveal and it was so fking good, my set of the weekend”

Insanely jealous. I need to jam this more but I got a strong feeling I’d have been fucking entranced seeing this live
