wow - I enjoyed their earlier stuff and listened to a bit of it today and heard a little of what you're describing and was like "I should dig a little deeper later," but hot damn, sounds like a major disappointment.

The Serena feature was by far the best feature on the album. I don’t mind clean vocals at all but they’re just so overused here and they add absolutely nothing to the sound aside from the band praying that they get some playtime on fuckin octane or some shit

three tracks in and i'm confused, when does it start getting bad? i'm liking everything so far even the singy parts, like the singy parts aren't as good as Dying Wish's but they're still good to me

update: side A had me leaning 3.5, but WOW the 7-11 stretch floored me. last laugh with its gothic-metal influence, this is already in my top 10 of the year it started a little jittery but the second half was magnificent

I mean I guess you’re just more into this style of music, but this is just so far removed from what made me love these guys in the first place that they might as well be a different band.

yknow, I kind of see where you're coming from, but I've always admired a band that can seamlessly evolve and transition into a new lane especially when done well like here for me. i would hate having to deal with people begging me to just make 15 Heart of Glass retreads with Waves Ablaze, I'm constantly evolving and adding new elements to my sound.

selling out to be a forever opener band for butt metal fests is anything but admirable TBH!

tbf this album is doing a lot of things that i feel like I just always seem to love. Last Laugh feels pretty gothic metal-esque in its beginning parts and half the time when that comes up I'm like "oh hell yeah more haley bait let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"
|
| |
Guess my Goth arse is going to check that song Venin. If its shit i am blaming you

That was meh

Just listen to their first two records. The debut is fire and Warmth of a Dying Sun is legit a metalcore classic in my eyes. Shame they didn’t get much attention when their music was actually good.

Yeah the first two are solid

i'd say that eternal forward motion is also still mostly excellent, dull ache and owed zero are insanely good songs
|
| |
Im going to call this the "while she sleeps" effect/disease. A band that started great and then just went to shit for no real discernable reason.

Eternal Forward Motion has some heaters but I literally saw a record like this coming from a mile a way back when it dropped.
We Forgot You is one of their best tracks fs tho

Eternal Forward Motion slapped. Conquering was kind of mid. Feeling like I'm just going to avoid this one, nice write up!

I think this is still a good record and I may even enjoy it more than Conquering. Sammy's riffs are still sick IMO. The alt metal grooves work for me.
That said, my biggest critique with their more recent sound is that I'm not sure Sammy is a compelling enough vocalist to get the spotlight as often as he does now. Justine is just more fun to listen to.

Band has always been mid
