This was like a 2.6 when I rated it and if anything it’s gone up. The review just posted today or maybe last night. People have been rating this for like 4 days. Seems like the general consensus is that’s it’s not good. However, yes, there are very few votes. It’s not doing extremely well on rym either. The average is good, but compared to their last two albums, it’s much lower and is only gonna trend downward likely. It’s fallen a lot since the album came out. Only place I’d say it’s doing “well,” is AOTY but for some reason they have the delusion that this is BCNR so therefore it deserves a good rating or it’s the next logical step. Neither are true. This is only gliding on the coattails of their former self for critic reviews. Glad Sputnik didn’t give into that shit as well.

Is the cover art Russian propaganda showing what the first nuke against the US is going to do to Big Bird?

There's just no grit anymore, sadly

A lack of grit is fine, if anything I think this direction would be better served if they sanded off more.

This album is at its best when its at its brightest and sunniest imo

pretty great review, though this doesn't sound like something I'd like much which is a shame cause I thought Ants was moving in the right direction

I miss the tension and anxiety of Isaac Wood's songs, the uplifting stuff just feels saccharine

Won't argue against that.

Bush Hall had a good amount that were similar songwriting-wise (Laughter Song, Turbines/Pigs, Dancers) and I think those are excellent.

This definitely aims to do something completely different and I don't think that's a bad thing, but I certainly understand people being turned off of this direction

People have been saying that this isn’t that much different from Bush Hall but to me it is a huge, bonkers shift. Bush Hall felt like AFUT but with a female vocalist. This just feels like… idk. Some like magic mirror pretty pretty princess type stuff. Let’s hope they don’t do it again.

And let’s just be completely honest here, if this wasn’t BCNR, would anyone even be talking about this this much? Would the reviews be this glowing? Would anyone really care that much? They really should just change the name of the band at this point. But I guess they just enjoy riding the coattails

fwiw, I was referring to Bush Hall sharing with a lot of DNA with AFUT. I don't necessarily need or want them to make that sound over and over but I think that record had some good gestures towards this brighter sound (Up Song, Across the Pond Friend)

I do think calling this bad because it's "magic mirror pretty pretty princess" stuff is needlessly reductive and sexist, but it is okay to dislike the band's twee turn from being SO different from where they originally started

Not trying to be sexist because I loved Bush Hall quite a bit. I have nothing against the female frontlady, but I do have problems with teletubbies music. And I have many more issues with it than just the sound. The whole song writing and lyricism is bad as well. It’s just a hot dumpster fire

[2] YoYo lol

@Brushed for sure, I get the teletubby angle but I do think there's a portion of the band's fanbase that is hating their turn just for letting the women lead so I think we should stay away from making those kinda statements (not accusing you of this btw, just general observations)

It’s just like, so like representative of like my inner child though, you know. Like I find myself connecting to it because it’s like so hopeful and stuff but it’s like built from despair you know.

I just love it right now, band is like unbelievably talented.

lol zak - "inner child"

"calling this the worst album of the decade is absolute lunacy" (2)

true, but only because Sleep Token exist

and yeah twee, cutesy, indie folk-pop whatever isn't inherently bad, this is just a monumentally terrible attempt at it which almost borders parody - like, if you told me this was a pisstake then I'd believe you. I'm definitely in agreement with the saccharine comment from earlier. The lyrics are atrocious
