I think my favorite thing about this is how dry and straightforward the production is. I feel like this type of music is often buried in like 30 layers of reverb so it sounds all "spooky" or whatever but it's all dry little funky riffs over here

the vocals are okay, I think

It does remind me of both Veilburner's last album and Suffering Hour, but with less enticing groove than the former, and less dense atmosphere than the latter. Certainly worthy of another go mind

The atmosphere here is very dry (as secondsun said) but I feel like it gives the off kilter riffs room to breathe. And yeah the vox rule. They're nuts lol.

This is neat. I hear so many great influences on this. The Jesus Lizard, Virus, Sunless, Inter Arma among others. Can't wait for a full length cause this EP rules

I get why you're calling it "divisive" Hawks, but this is right up my alley. All thrills no frills kinda stuff

My only complaint so far is that I wish this had more frequent blast beats sprinkled in, but I get the sense that they're going for something a lot more hypnotic and not as in your face. Ingenious song structures and riffing though. The drier production is definitely a cool choice. The recording almost has an analog, live tracked kind of vibe that you'd expect from a Steve Albini produced record. They totally list bands like Shellac and Jesus Lizard as influences on their bandcamp, which is fucking rad for a black/death metal band.
