I do think that if Sunbather is Ocarina of Time, NB is Majora’s Mask, OCHL is Twilight Princess, IG is Skyward Sword, and this is Breath of the Wild. Guess they’ve been progressing in Zelda time

CHAINSAW FOR DEMOCRACY
This album is a lot to take in
At first listen I felt like there weren't any pinnacles the likes of say the end of dreamhouse but now I realize that half the album is a peak moment so you almost become jaded with it

Great review, particularly good opening paragraph. Having jammed this in full now I can definitely see why it’s getting such a good reception. I’ll have to sit with it a bit, so far I like it a lot but I’m not really in love.

WITH MY ENDLESS ILLNESS WALKING INTO BLACKNESS is constantly stuck in my head. It’s somber. But it is gorgeous it makes me happy. What a fine way to wrap up this album. A little disclosure I have been diagnosed with NPD/BPD last summer. This album makes me a wreck in so many ways. I’m better now, but I still do struggle. This album resonates a lot in those regards. This album makes me reflect on my own issues and often knots my throat. It pulls emotions out of me I didn’t even know I had. It pulls vulnerability out of me in periods of grandiosity.
Also love the Sunbather commentary. Would I put this above that album? Not yet. That album has been a best friend for me for 12 years. But from lyricism standpoint and overall production and sound aesthetic, definitely, I see it. I can absolutely see this as their crown jewel eventually. But Sunbather still takes the nod for me personally. But god. This is what NB and OCHL should’ve been. But I won’t complain about them seeing as this wouldn’t exist without them. I see them each a bit as a disappointment. But disappointments are okay so long as we learn from them. And Deafheaven absolutely have.

Hell yeah brother review is gud
That bit about the drummer needing an ice bath is nutty but understood, I've heard very few drummers manage the bpms he does for many, many minutes at a time lmao

Some of their best work is on this album. I expect it'll be a grower for me over time.

The best representation of the mixture of influences this band has. I could see myself bumping it sooner than later… heathen into amethyst is just insane

this might be their best record. it's so consistantly great. The Garden Route and Heathen are so sick. And don't make me talk about winona

I haven't really been all that much of a fan of the band the last few years but holy hell is this album awesome from front to back

I keep re-reading the second sentence thinking that I'm probably misreading it, but just in case, did you mean to use "wielding" and "tweeting" instead of "wields" and "tweet?" Alternatively, you may have meant "who wields" rather than just "wields." Anyway, awesome review. Can't wait to listen to this!

Been listening basically nonstop for 2 days, loving this so much.
I feel like this is finally a culmination of the potential they showed with Sunbather and have been working towards ever since.

@Treblink, thanks for pointing that out! I went through a lot of rewrites that kept change the tense and missed those.
