It may not be new for the genre now, but in the 80's the sound of Angel Witch's self titled stood very well up against Iron maiden's debut and 'heaven and Hell' by sabbath in my opinion.

I agree with you there Viper-but I still maintain that 'Angel Witch' was also important for the genre as a whole.

Angel Witch really weren't that big of an influence, Album's great no doubt but they certainly didn't have a profound effect on the genre, possibly because the band split after this with a new line-up for their second, or maybe not enough people had access to it.
