I figure a hole in this review’s logic would most likely arise from the existence, if any, of albums from before streaming that did the thing this review says this album does. Surely they’re out there

Yes! My ruse worked. But now that I've set the bar unrealistically high, I'll just sit back and wait for the 2.5-3.0.

Yeah.. I got through this whole thing the other day while doing my annual listen of the staff list. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would but I really can't fathom any argument that puts this above "pretty good". Nice guitar work, cool production aesthetic, and I liked the vocals a lot more than you did, but there are just not enough ideas here to justify its length.

this would be an 11/10 if every song was as good as All I Want Is You

somewhere in the middle of listening to this the words 'spooky Khruangbin' entered my mind, and then while scrolling Instagram I was informed that that very band was the top streamed by Spotify for Artists users this year
well I certainly don't mind Khruangbin and I thought this was pleasant / interesting with only a few highlights. when I started writing this comment I was highly skeptical of the thesis that this album was symptomatic of streaming culture, but now I'm just skeptical

so you made a reductive khruangbin comparison and then discovered that khruangbin is more popular than you thought and this somehow changed your perception on this album in relation to an arbitrary notion of it somehow being connected to streaming culture....
i don't understand people on this site man

This finally arrived in the mail, so I jammed it again and it is still the 5ist of 5's

Agreed with some ppl on here, nostalgic pastiche isn't enough to justify all of this. There are some true gems like opener that manage to do the balancing act well, but I really found the whole thing tepid and tbh rather cynical. Even jump scare noise bliss didn't land for me. For all the past references, it can't seem to escape the haze-y, plodding malaise found in so much contemporary bedroom indie.

I listen to a lot of indie and none of it sounds as vibrant or creative as this does

Two hours, six sides of vinyl layer, and I’m still wanting more. Masterpiece. Felt like I was in a time capsule the entire time, vibes upon vibes upon vibes

I love this for all the reasons the reviewer seems to hate it. There's something about the sheer mass and immersion of this thing that is fantastic. There are bits of modernity tucked into the folds and the production is perfect for this kind of aesthetic without losing clarity. It took me a long time to even come around to this because of the negative gist people were putting out about it, but I easily swallowed the first disc and am happily onto the second here.

Album was not overhyped tbh. It won a lot of publications' AOTY and I think it'll end up being a top 10 decade LP.

yeah this shit rules, the level of quality it maintains at its length is insane. although I would prefer it was cut in half honestly
