Wasn’t sure what to expect from this but so far Helian is pretty damn good.

Only one time through, but it's better than Flowers, IMO. And yeah, the sort of soundtrack vibe of this one is a plus for me. Funny how Ulver was/is criticized for changing their sound back in the day, and now they're criticized for not. Can't please everyone, I suppose

For me it's not that I'm disappointed because they stopped evolving so restlessly, but it's the timing of the style they chose to stick with. It's my least fave Ulver style just after Kveldssanger. If they stopped changing their sound on a style I liked (which is literally all of their other phases) I wouldn't have a problem at all.

deep down the guys loved those '80s pop bangers, can't hate them for draining the hell out of that sound. it's been fun, but they should find something else

I would find it interesting for them to go back to black metal now, maybe with some other influences thrown there. Maybe come up with something like Oranssi Pazuzu

Man, this is a bummer. Still eagerly awaiting, with dimming hope, of a return to the sound of Shadows of the Sun. "Eos" is still the most beautiful thing they've ever done and one of the most stunning, emotional songs I can think of, maybe next to Elizabeth Fraser singing Song to the Siren.

Ghost Entry is so good, remember it from their EP

The Blood Inside/SotS era is my favorite Ulver era, I like it even more than Bergtatt. The band has produced an impressive number of masterpieces over the years, their legendary status is well deserved.
But this is crap and I'm no longer willing to waste my time hoping to find hidden gems in a mountain of low calorie disco-pop.
