Hey this is pretty good! Plays like Ghost Reveries 2 (even repeating the back end fall off), the production is utterly marvelous (contrary to Pika's opinion, hearing Akerfeldt play in higher fidelity helps! The bass tone is sublime too), and dammit I wanna m/ in my all-black gothic disney castle

A Story Never Told is fucking weak tho

yeah, I’m not sold on this but the production is of little concern. It’s well balanced and punchy

could just do with a few more memorable moments that stick thus far. I remember the strings and flute in S4(?), some nice percussion and bouncy bass etc. but nothing specific.

Just a ‘yeah, that was cool in the moment’ kind of deal. The riffs have definitely eluded me to date

S4 through S6 is a gorgeous journey, really sold me on the whole album honestly.

Biggest flaw on the production is how the growls are too loud and thin imo. The rest is nice for what they were aiming for. A more meaty production would have helped with the metal aspect but I think Mikael did not want that.

I will say this album is a grower. At first, it sounded like a mess to me. The more I've listened though, the more it's came together for me.

It's like that jazzy part of baying of the hounds for a whole album which is really neat. I gotta spin this a few more times
