Emily is the best part of this, by a lot. Shinoda is as weak as he's ever been.

The new album is short, forgettable, and holds absolutely no heart.
Mike's vocals sound uninspired, as if he recorded them in one week, and I just cannot get into Emily's voice. It isn't bad or anything, but it's so one dimensional at times, and just sort of ok; it sounds somewhat forced, with no weight behind it. The rest of the band is absolutely non-existent; it could be a 3 piece band, and you wouldn't even notice.
The only songs that I can somewhat dig are Two Faced, and IGYEIH, that may hold small glimpses of some Hybrid Theory, but Two Faced is literally a boring rehash of One Step Closer. It has small amounts of member-berries, and samples that sounds like an older version of Linkin Park trying to tear itself out of tight saran wrap.
The album is hollow, lacks any sort of punch, or emotion, and thank God it goes by in a flash.
Go listen to A Line In The Sand, or Mark The Graves, and immediately hear the stark contrast of how awful this new music is.

The more I hear 'Cut The Bridge', the more I absolutely despise that song.
Props to Rob for seemingly being the only person who felt that the past was best left in the past, and by all accounts he's happier for it. Good for him.

Uhm this is really bad. The Emptiness Machine is perfectly fine ig but the lowlights here are lowww. The discrepancy between how hard Emily is trying and how little the band is really makes this much more inconsistent and disorienting than it had any right to be. I audibly guffawed at some of the choices (lmao Heavy is the Crown / lmao at the bridge of Two Faced / an extra heavy lmao for Casualty omfg)

Finally sat through this, I went in with nostalgia glasses and ready to forgive whatever transgressions were in store. But this was just bad. If they continue with this line-up I will expect a lot more going forward. Next one will be a make-or-break album.
I can't believe it but Two Faced ended up being the highlight for me... That is depressing.
Emily scares the shit out of me. She's got the crazy eyes.

Imo they shouldve hired two vocalists to bring new ideas and energy to the band, like a talented singer and a heavy screamer, instead of trying to actually replace chester lol... but what do i know

It's possible they went with recycling their old works to make this record more accessible to their fanbase (you know, an attempt to minimalise the amount of "this doesn't sound like LP" opinions) and they might do something actually creative in the future.

still growing on me with every listen, its a really great album. a return to form of some kind, incorporating all kinds of styles that the band tried over their 20+ year career. i appreciate how compact the runtime is, invites for lots of rejams. emily slots right in with their sound and imo honors chesters legacy well.

Great review. I can't tell if I dislike the album or maybe if I just never liked the band. New vocalist is the only highlight in songs that sound 20 years old.

Yall crazy giving this a lower rating than some of their more recent albums. It’s not peak LP but it’s a great album from them.
Emptiness Machine, Heavy is the Crown, Two Faced, Casualty, and IGYEIH are top.
Stained is even a great pop song by LP pop standards.
Overflow is a pretty interesting one, I don’t like Mike’s flow but for an experimental LP song better than a lot of their weirder shit.
Good things go is a good closer.
Solid album IMO, deserves a higher spot on their lineup than this site places it.
