It's maybe more consistent than Shaped By Fire but nah this is pretty comfortably worse for me
|
| |
Only songs worth going back for are Blinded (great song tbh) and My Own Grave
Songwriting is more interesting here imo. I'd rather listen to any of their early stuff instead though.

my own grave is awesome
|

I think I listened to it too much at the time

really like the cleans on this

these album titles are self owns. Shortly after Shaped by Fire came out Tim was hospitalized with 25% of his body burned
Guess next he'll get swept away in a mudslide or something with this storm coming to Cali

Watch the next album be called Say Gex right before Tim goes to prison for a second time.

Through Mid Ahead

That's actually a pretty brilliant portmanteau if you think about how many albums could be tagged as -core and mid.

Also was really happy to see this review get featured. Glad I came out of retirement to review this midtalcore album

Lacks the signature AILD sound a majority of the time. To be expected with all hired guns. Really nothing in here that will keep me coming back. Didn’t like the vocals either. Listened through once and I don’t foresee myself ever turning it on again.

Interesting comment from the producer (pinned by the band on a YT video so seems legit): “Hi guys. I produced the album alongside the band. among all that has transpired at the very least, we made the absolute most AILD sounding record we possibly could've made. This track is very special to me and I really hope you guys can enjoy it as much as we do.”
Honestly, despite the drama Void Within, We Are the Dead, Burden, Cave We Fear to Enter are top notch. Other songs are fairly forgettable.

I like most of the tracks here but the only one I really connect with is Cave We Fear to Enter. Broken Reflection is probably my other favorite. Gears that Never Stop probably has the best section (that triplet feel switch is pretty sick and the solo on top of it rules as well).
