Mestarin is more metal. I like the tripop tracks here

imo genre is more about approach than sound. 80s and 90s black metal classics were experimental and outlandish for their time and it does a disservice to those bands to reduce the music to "blastbeats and trems".

If anything, the combination of trip hop and black metal is well-trodden ground. The main thing that differentiates this from earlier experiments by Mayhem or Blut Aus Nord is that the drums sound more natural.

I've put in three or so listens and this is a great album. I still prefer the previous one, but this is amazing stuff.

The first 2 or 3 tracks, especially the title track, are excellent. Don't really vibe with some of the later tracks. That title track is a really awesome blend of psychedelia and black metal that I wish was maintained over more tracks. Gets too chaotic at times with all the different elements being squeezed through. Starts to feel like an Imperial Triumphant record.

Cool rev! +1. Just a slight note in regards to the title - I would translate 'Muuntautuja' as: Changeling (which is not far off from Shapeshifter I guess)

As with their previous release, not a huge fan of the album art tbh. Need to give this a spin soon.

I love the last artwork, this not so much. Really digging what I've heard so far, been on the wagon since day one (probably more like year 4 lol) with this band so it has been cool to see them finally get recognition.

i would prefer the artwork if it was in color tbh. i'm tired of metal releases with b&w artwork

the greatness of this has only elevated Mestarin Kynsi for me. this is an excellent release from a band incapable of mediocrity

Listened again and agree that it kind of goes out quietly. I feel like it would have worked better if they did a wall-of-noise transition into the last track instead of fading out and building back in. Felt like credits rolling but the space between made it awkward.

This is a good Oregano Paizuri album.
