Static X is not an unreasonable comparison lol. The riffs have a similar bounce.

So is this enough of a remaster that makes it worth listening to separate from the original?
|

Has anyone noticed how similar Cypecore sound to these guys?

Always liked some songs off of this (Bioactive, Next Day, Decoy) but could never really get into the whole thing. Love their sound overall, though. It's so evocative.
The re-recorded Bioactive is great, but I feel the original does some things better (the rougher guitar tone and the extended outro, mainly). It's nice to have two good versions of a song.
Edit: Huh, the original Bioactive's outro isn't as long as I remembered, lol. Yeah I'd say the re-recorded version is better for sure.

reevolution and next day will never come are among their top songs def

Willie I definitely recall the muddy production of the original, this remaster is clear and it feels like it provides an industrial punch.

It definitely made this album feel more fresh and alive imo and I enjoy it quite a lot more

Thanks for this review! Got me to check this one out, sounds worlds better than the OG recording.

Reevolution may be my fav off the album, but outside of this and anything Antares, Challenger (from the EP) is their best song imo

These guys are probably the best out of the futuristic dystopian cyber bands in terms of sound. mechina are a bit more generic and scar symmetry's music has only recently been catching up to their lyrics

First time listening to this and I think it improved the original version noticeably.

--nice rev as always willie. never checked these dudes out but always meant to. seems like a great time to start!--
Futures - Did you ever check this out?
--this absolutely slap. i might get a scalping for saying it, but they remind me of a more technical version of static x haha--
Haha. No physical violence, but I have to disagree... well, maybe I can catch some Shadow Zone vibes, now that you mention it.

Yes.
--Has anyone noticed how similar Cypecore sound to these guys? --
I listened to their 2024 release and I'm not hearing it. Maybe I need to go further back in their discography?

I don't think Mechina are generic at all, except within their own body of work... if that makes any sense. All their stuff is just way too similar, but I can't say there's another band that really sounds like them. I can't stand Scar Symmetry.

Cypecore is cyber-death-metal-core with regular melodic choruses, so it's comparable on an abstract level, but they sound entirely differently.

I think Neurotech is comparable, he just leans more electronic than metal.

Oh, you're right, I didn't know about Neurotech, it's hilarious how much it sounds like electro ochestral Sybreed.

Ben's harsh vocals sound kinda shot on the new recordings
