@willie yeah the state faults album is good, not sure how into skramz you are but its good.
I also really like "like a sunken ship". The drumming on that track is really good, same with Atonement.

@korgjoonas: All good songs, for sure.
@cloak: If I've ever heard skramz, I didn't know it.
@Titan: We both like prog, but we seem to not agree on ratings often.

I'm taking a brief first listen to non-singles songs while coming back from work right now. Actually positive impression since I like theatrics in music and this certainly seems to scratch that itch. But as usual with prog-related music I'll for sure take some more time on the morning with proper headphones. Certainly liking it more than their last and less than Bilateral era, but that's as far as I can go right now

The only Album of these guys I've listened to was Bilateral and I found it very good, so to hear their new material is still very good is good to hear. I'll check this out. Pos'd

If you've only ever heard Bilateral, you're in for a little shock. Looking forward to hearing what you and Fowo think.

I only wish for a Leprous record that properly balances his vox with a massive sound like Bilateral and TC but alas, this is fine too.

I found the record to actually be quite boring on first listen, surprised by these ratings... Like a Sunken Ship is nice though

This album definitely needs a few listens so you're kind of familiar with the more subtle sections.

"Ha ha. What? Is there some new Soilwork single I've missed?"
Nah it's just that a lot of people are accusing Soilwork of being Night Flight Orchestra 2.0 lately lmao
buuut that's another argument for another day

Yeah it hit a bit different on second listen but I do think the front half is quite a bit better than the second half. Let's see what happens with more time.

First listen impressions... This is Leprous's weakest album, but there's a lot to appreciate on here. It's actually a uniquely satisfying blend of old and new. Though I was surprised at how straightforward and, frankly, slow of an album this is. None of this is inherently bad, really, and I can see it growing. Already starting my second listen I'm "getting it" a bit more so we'll see!

Better than Aphelion and Melina, worse than Pitfalls.

This is quite heavy, with fresh sounds and great vocal work by the lead singer. I'm positively suprised, I didn't think Leprous had it in them to make music like this. Highlights: Limbo, Faceless and the first two tracks

Crazy to me that in 2024 there's still people that are like "I really like this one album by a band that's continued to make music consistently and I just never bothered to hear a single other thing that they've done"
Anyway I still need to give this a full chug. I'm a bigger fan of the back half of the catalogue than a lot of people although it has been more hit or miss and Bilateral/Coal/TC are my favorite era for the reasons that many have.
Wasn't huge on silently walking but it was ite, sunken ship I honestly thought was pretty bad on the one listen I gave it. Very much 'ok this is boring and lame, ok cool a surprising heavier part out of no where, ok back to kind of boring and lame' like the heavier part was certainly better but in and of itself felt kind of shoehorned into a shittier track that wasn't doing much for me, the "Lalalas" being kind of downright annoying and it altogether feeling like they were trying to hoist up a not very well written song on the back of it having a surprising heavy turn.
But we'll see how it lands in album context/how the rest of it will hit when I put this on tonight or tmrw.

Leprouss is always super hit and miss for me but I'm digging this one a lot

This is already benefiting massively from just having a sitdown listen to it with good headphones, the 2 opener singles I had done 1 or 2 times and didn't remember them much specifically other than being fairly medium on them but listening in FLAC w/ the sennheisers now and they hit MUCH harder, The soundstage on My Specter is wild and some of the bassier synth tones have been so luscious. Anyway really enjoying this more than i expected so far so that's cool. This song rules.
Beginning of Sunken Ship is the low point of the album so far, still not a big fan of this. God the lalas eugh.
Einar's vocals at the end though goddamn. This record is probably the best he's sounded.
