The only other album I can think of is Blue Rev by Alvvays

Maybe Javelin or Dragon New Warm Mountain, but those have some little flaws

@Slex Yeah Tunnel Vision is very special

this is an album [5]

Watching TV/Tunnel Vision is definitely the place where the album hits its stride for me - don't think the floor-ceiling gap is that high throughout (other than Cry For Me being head and shoulders the best), but the second half defs has a higher hit rate

tbh dunno what the trve consensus-viable album of the decade would be, so it might as well be blue rev

My only issue with Blue Rev is that it doesn't end as strong as it starts

last two tracks are a bit mild, but idk they have 3 huge highlights stacked just before them so can't be too harsh

well Dragon and Blue Rev are 2 of my candidates as well, so close to being 5s, the latter might take the edge having just experienced it live in its entirety, Javelin didn't do much for me tho

Javelin grew off of me so quick, last 2 Sufjan albums have 10x the quirk and 5x less depth than previous stuff in my humble superior opinion

Vampire In the Corner and Tunnel Vision give me Yeule vibes at times

I still think Javelin is almost a perfect album. I'm just rarely in the mood to listen to it but I think that's because its such a deeply personal and emotional album so you really have to have the right mindset to sit down and listen to it.

Javelin was way overrated I think, mostly by people who didn't enjoy the direction he took with The Ascension and wanted the old Sufjan back.

Bet you the same thing happens with the new Bad Seeds and people who didn't like Ghosteen...

accurate + oh gawd do you have to put the vibe in the pit of my stomach into words like that

been keeping my expectations modest for the new Bad Seeds, but still hoping to have a good time

Nothing wrong with preferring the old Sufjan Stevens stuff when it's clearly his best work
