Here’s the thing is the poorest here, still alright though.

Motorcycle Boy is one of the most dishonestly titled songs I've ever heard, tune's pedestrian as a legionary
-1 to the flatulent vox effects in Starburst [2], thought the best tracks here were Modern World and Sundowner by a pretty vast margin. Don't think either could hold a candle from any era against the Skinty Fia highlights though, rest of this album is a pretty underwhelming jumble. Bin!

This album is dangerously close to having a lower average here than the new Smashing Pumpkins one - and that's plain ludicrous, no mental gymnastics of any kind could defend that happening
|

meh, new pumpkins riffs periodically and has good bang-crash percussion

and only four presentable songs outside of that
this album is well written whatever you make of the style
the only mainstream breakthrough rock record in this current faze of 'post-punk' bands to seem convincing...Idles have really struggled trying to make this record most obviously
I can see why people would think such an approach isn't a noble endeavour, but that's kinda by the by at this stage - it's the time and level of success you try to make this type of album

This is fantastic so far.

Certain tracks here are absolute standouts but the album as a whole doesn't compare to Skinty Fia.

I thought Skinty Fia was the better album at first until I heard this multiple times and went back to Skinty. Skinty is still great but naw man, this is much better. I can point to multiple weak spots on Skinty but almost every track here has something great about it. The Motorcycle Boy hate is absolutely wild; there’s just no way that’s a bottom track. Here’s The Thing and Horseness would probably rank lowest for me and they’re both still excellent tracks

'Horseness' has gone up in my estimations the most but it isn't helped by following a slow track in 'Sundowner'.
One of those songs you listen to outside of the album and it's quality stands out a lot more.

It's really odd but I've never listened to anything by these guys despite knowing about them and always being in my radar, guess this is an interesting time to start.
Despite the apparently poppier direction, this review makes it seem like an album I'd enjoy

Let’s do one of these:
S: Modern World, Favourite, Motorcycle Boy
A: Romance, Bug, Sundowner, Desire, Death Kink, Starburster
B: Horseness, Here’s The Thing
I think Desire is pretty underrated too, find the chorus rly airy and hypnotizing

Album Rating: 2.5 | Sound Off
S: Starburster
A: Favourite
F: Modern World, Romance, Bug, Sundowner, Desire, Death Kink, Motorcycle Boy, Horseness, Here's The Thing
I'm trolling, but not by much sadly

Avg needs to be lower. I often forget how there are people with normie ears on this site. This brit pop bollocks is their most milquetoast effort to date. It’s not like they’re doing anything new with the already boring sound. The were never particularly challenging to begin with and they always had a pop edge but they were at least pulling from the Joy Division side of the spectrum at the beginning.
