Billy has always been a bad singer but in the heyday it really lent to the vibe of the music and made them sound unique.
His vocals on this, aside from some good moments here and there, hold this back from being as good as it could have been. But this is the first time I’ve actually enjoyed a Pumpkins album upon release, it’s been just about 30 years since Mellon Collie and I can’t get behind anything Adore onward personally, so it actually makes me kinda happy that they put something out that’s at least interesting and has some real high points.

Yes, I liked this. Chamberlain really impresses. Corgan corgans and Iha doesn't Iha but does something I kinda like as a new direction. Feeling a 3.5-6 so far

I saw people online compare this album to Tool lol.

this actually isn't bad, vaguely impressive at points
either Billy recorded this with a cold though or his voice has gotten even weaker since the last time I bothered listening (Cyr), he sounds terrible on this

Billy used to be a great vocalist, but he just doesn't have that edge or emotional delivery anymore. His vocals sound almost AI-like, in a completely soulless and passionless sense. And that definitely rubs off on the overall feel of this album.
It's got some nice instrumentation, probably the best since pre-Machina days, but the complete package still has me scratching my head. It's Smashing Pumpkins imitating hard rock for the most part, which should sound awesome, but honestly it's a bit dull if you ask me.
Pentagrams and Sighommi are a great one-two-punch, mind.

His vocals are fine I guess. Not that I can understand anything he's singing about, but there's many worse vocalists than Corgan out there
And on Melon Collie, it's a good album but definitely not all good, and bloated as fuck as most double LPs are, but it does have a bunch of fantastic songs

I think this 2024 rating average of 3.7 might be the one to tank most rapidly once we've seen the year through, yes we're all pleasantly surprised this isn't atrocious but I'm not hearing the potential longevity.
Will prob settle eventually at a 3.0-3.3

the religious references in the lyrics are actually atrocious and are really hurting the replay value

First two tracks are stellar, wish I was as engaged with the rest.
Pentagrams...the best track they've released this century?!?!?

Why are Sleep Token catching strays in a Smashing Pumpkins review? They manifest haters here like no other band, I swear.

Double posted but I think this is a lot better than Atum at least.

A good SP record in 2024? Definitely wasn't in my bingo card

I will say the dreamy indie moments on here for sure come closer to a full circle 90's experience that also works with Corgan's voice in 2024 than them trying to go down the hard rock road. Surpsisingly, Billy ain't no Ozzy, but he's even miles away from a Josh Homme.
