I sort of get the comparisons to LDR but you listen to LDR and it’s hard to not picture LDR whereas…I don’t even know what this singer looks like and I always feel he’s writing ‘in general’ and well, about ‘young adults’ which he no longer is, so I don’t think it falls into that unrelatable superstar ego trap. You listen to LDR and you worship at the church of LDR - not for me. Love this stuff though.

The first track (in particular) has really annoying vocal production. It sounds like listening to an old analog radio when a song is slightly out of tune and the dial needs to be adjusted to sharpen the vocals.
But apart from that, this is a slightly surprisingly good effort.

I had to look up blumpkin to see what it was. Wish I hadn't...

mj - the change in vocal production is possibly the most obvious alteration in sound this time, it hasn’t bothered me

I do think the whole ‘puppy love’ promiscuous romance that’s notionally directed at another(s) but is quite obviously a romance of the youth of the self is done so well in this dude’s lyrics.
A lot of people don't seem to get it or I guess like that but that’s a shame, underrated lyrics.

previously heard the debut, which is an unassumingly pleasant yet (absurdly) one-dimensional non-event that ended up kinda winning me over, but not the point I would want to revisit
this seems like a similar affair with the addition of more cringeworthy lyrics I (apparently?) "don't seem to get"

Have you been saying the lyrics are bad? Because obviously that’s the group I was referring to (a lot of people on RYM certainly)
If you want to feel personally affronted go for it though :D

"personally affronted"
i see precisely one person going out of their way to whinge about how much blowback these terrible lyrics are q rightly getting

not whingeing, explaining why I like something, quite eloquently I thought - certainly not just 'they good shut up'
the sum total of my terrible whinge, saying 'it's a shame' - I think they're fun lyrics and slyly clever - in context -, but you know I have 'cursory listen' bands I've somewhat dismissed already on past form but still do the grand honour of checking out new material for, and I get this is that band for a lot of people, they're an acquired taste through and through
Demon was clearly angling for a personal aggrievance on a blanket statement about an apparent consensus, not sure why really, but made me laugh anyway

The lyrics are fine; they suit the style of music and his voice and are quite evocative actually.

yeah, the androgyny hits just right and there is an evocative feel, there's a romance
