Need to listen more, but still love his stuff so much
Nothing will top the first 3, and hopefully he finds a way to vary it up, but for now, I’m loving it

He so badly needs some sort of sense of economy, great writeup sowing

The S/T is unreal just from Smaller Acts alone. Great album and up there in ranking

This review expresses some very real concerns I have with Bryan's music, but at the same time, I will almost certainly bump my score for this lol.

Zach’s music is strange in that it’s so mass produced in terms of volume and he’s clearly appeasing his record label’s desire for high output (symptomatic of mainstream country as a whole really) but he does it within the confines of what seems like a genuinely authentic, rustic sound.. it’s impressive and also a little concerning

overall I think he’s probably good for the genre and mainstream music as a whole

Agreed, I'd take an okay ZB release over the best that Morgan Wallen has to offer

"he’s clearly appeasing his record label’s desire for high output"

uh I don't think this is clear at all, he genuinely seems like a guy who is just always writing and recording of his own accord. Not sure a label is necessarily begging for over 5 hours of content in 3 years.

did he not basically triple his output once signing to a major label?

Idk, maybe that was when he got super famous and suddenly was able to spend his time on whatever he wanted.

He was honorably discharged from the navy in Nov 2021, so I imagine that had a lot to do with the increased output.

“overall I think he’s probably good for the genre and mainstream music as a whole” I think this is where I sit with him and Childers. Not terribly interesting stuff, but certainly better than what’s currently being peddled as country/americana music in the mainstream

thinking the first third and the last are pretty strong, but maybe a bit of a dip in the middle. still nothing bad in that dip tho, the early splay of songs are fucking great. Oak Island is something Jason Isbell could've wrote.
