Spot on review. Really love this band and I did like some moments on Carnal but it was a little bit of a letdown. Not as heavy as I would've liked either

@Jon I mean I thought I really liked Stories until I actually ended up coming back to around 3-4 songs off of it. I didn't love their poppier tendencies in there, but absolutely loved the heavier or experimental stuff. The Great Divorce was mind-blowing at first listen, and I still love it.

@xgold agreed. I think the main problem with the band is that they had this bombastic first attempt in their sound with self titled and didn't really do much to branch out afterwards. They've kinda pigeonholed themselves into their niche. Add to that all the forgettable pop segments and yeah I'm not sold on this

I feel self titled pulled a lot of people in with it's bombastic energy mixed with it's digestible radio sound, each album slowly less bombastic than the prior... I still dig their sound and a couple songs from each album, but let's be real. This band is meant to be radio/live fun and NOTHING MORE
*edit* now that I listened to the whole album, it's fine. Front heavy kind of zoned out second half but 3-4 catchy songs as expected

After a few listens I think this album is receiving some undue hate. It's major flaw is that half of it is comprised of interludes, but the actual tracks are standard Nothing More fare. Easily a 3.

Idk man, the peaks of this album are great but they're way too few. I can't listen to give it time or down the river without cringing at least once, and that's mostly how it goes for the whole album. Every song has one moment where it's just not my thing. But yeah it's nothing I wouldn't recommend to a NM fan
I just wanted to see more unconventional song structures and all out heaviness, but yeah I guess they just don't opt for that as much

Took my brother in-law to his first show this past weekend (which wasn't for Nothing More, but From Ashes to New, who supported them on their Carnal tour).
Was not impressed with the album when I listened to it in preparation, but I can't deny that most of it was fun in a live setting. Freefall in particular was a highlight and Jonny is absolutely incredible as a live vocalist.

Album is your typical bombastic NM fare, but pretty average across the board.
Band is still fun live though.

Gotta say. Generic as it is I absolutely love Freefall with Chris Daughtry, hits in the right place everytime.

Oh I have listened to that song more than probably any other Nothing More song purely for it's catchy feel goodness
