Love the direction and ideas here, just wish the 2 min songs were fleshed out.

Jcurry/Meborphus - I'm in the same boat. Loving the direction of the new record, The Wilderness is a firm FIL fave for me now. Also, Shrine is a lowkey banger. Will probably settle at a 4 for me.

just saw em last night and they started the set with this whole record front to back and honestly was the best part of the set; these songs are a real vibe live

Their set was awesome, I loved that they played so long. Great mix of their whole discog.

Anyone fiending for some heavier Joe Vannucchi, he just put out a new EP with his new band Hard Chiller. It's really damn good and it's good to hear him on some beefier stuff. Also has Steve Choi from RX bandits/the sound of animals fighting

I care less about heavy vs not heavy, just wish he would write more interesting instrumentals for FIL. I’m still generally digging this album, but when I go back and listen to Able Bodies I’m just like holy shit the songwriting was so fucking fluid and tight. Guitars and drums were all over the place, but in the best way. Now it’s like “ok here are the same three chords I’ve been playing for the past 10 years with some whispery vocals hope you like it”

Sometimes I wonder if he’s one of those guys who did shrooms and it changed his entire personality. I’m a day one fan but that’s really the vibe I get sometimes

Eh I just think at the end of the day they're more of a shoegaze/indie band than a post-hardcore influenced alternative band now. The last two records had a lot of intricacies with synths and keys and this one feels like an effort to really strip things back. Seems like he might be finding his way back to more riffing, but I think the reverby, washed out sound is here to stay too. If that new EP is any idea of where his head is at too, then we could get a really cool mix for the next record. I do think it would be cool to bring back more of the clean tone electric guitar riffing to complement everything else though. They've shirked a lot of the alternative stuff and he's really good at writing that.
