I think the benefit of having 9 members is the amount of fun vocal colors you can play with. Like they have their usual three main vocals with Nayeon/Jihyo/Jeongyeon but the rest of them have gotten so much better over time and post-contract are actually given parts in their range. Plus once your ears are used to it, they have really distinct textures
