You're spot on about her growing confidence as a vocalist

Right? She sounds so much better on this album. Both in belting and in the bluesy tracks, it's like she realized she's actually a pretty good singer.

Just checked their debut. Sounds more domezy and consistent. Much better than this one I guess. Might not be such a bad idea to check it if you haven't already.

Yeah, the first album was a pretty different. The main songwriter was Gaz Jennings from Cathedral so they were more doom like you said.
When Nicke Andersson replaced Gaz they veered towards hard rock a bit, I honestly prefer this incarnation of the band but yeah debut is solid too, just different.

Haven't listened to II and IV yet, but this and II are stronger than I
Spun this last night and it stood its 3.5 ground, just like II.

I would have given this a 4 if they didnt add the last two "edit" tracks. I hate when bands add remixes of their own songs into the album it just bloats the album.

So what happened here, did Johanna split with the whole band? I've seen tour news with a completely different lineup.

Haha great summary, kinda says it all... They are like Ghost with less gimmick kitsch. Band with aan obscure occult image that plays rather tame and conventional Hard rock. But I think musicwise they are more interesting than Ghost.
I just checked them out upon seeing a show announcement and kinda got fooled by the imagery.
