it's the same formula as the last album; front-loaded with heavy tracks, and the melodic tracks on the back half. My main issue is I wish every track didn't end with a trap beat

Heavy? And what next...?

saw them tonight, the set was ok but pretty low energy. they played a new song, which sounded like an old song. meredith walked by me after the set. i was too flustered to say anything. i honestly hope they get better cause they seem to be in a holding pattern

After listening to their last three releases, I feel like they might be pushing a bit too hard with the new tracks. The feature on "Feed the Vice" almost messes up the song; it just feels overdone. On the other hand, Vol. III was solid from start to finish without trying too hard. They’re still an awesome band, and I’ve really come to appreciate them lately, but man, Vol. III is definitely my top pick.

Feed The Vice is extremely over-the-top for sure. Vol 4 saved my life, that album pretty much carried me through one of the darkest times of my life. I doubt they will ever hit that hard again but I'll always check their stuff. Could not get into Vol 3 though

Interesting... I love the consistent chugging grooves on III. IV is definitely emotional in the second half which I appreciate also. In terms of nu metalcore, I'm just really stuck on the hardcore punk drum groove. VCTMS use it more in their recent stuff, Alpha Wolf also uses that a ton. I just find it too fast paced to listen to on repeat.. So I've compiled a playlist of all the chugging groove nu metalcore songs I enjoy.

Maybe I should rejam III, it's been a while. I just thought it was kind of blah and the songs all sounded similar. I thought IV had great variety, every track stood out in a different way

I have been getting into that hardcore punk groove more recently though. That drum groove just feels alien to me it's weird. I never was exposed to anything hardcore in my adolescent years. The only thing I remember that punk groove being in that I enjoyed was pop punk, but when in the context of metalcore I'm just not used to it yet. It honestly feels like I've been pampered my whole life as a metalcore fan. All I knew really was that good cop bad cop formula, growls in the verse, cleans in the chorus. I think I'm finally ready to graduate from those clean choruses. I realise in a lot of hardcore and metalcore, the punk groove is there in the chorus to be the melodic bit, I just have get used no clean singing in the chorus.

it's funny you say that cause the clean sections are some of my favorite parts from this band

Relistening to this yeah the variety is definitely nice, I'm just glad there are a few tracks that focus on those chugging grooves. I don't like in a band like Alpha Wolf it's a punk groove like every other section.

Yeah the cleans are definitely well placed in VCTMS stuff, they actually feel earned when they pop up
