I'm baffled by the almost overwhelmingly positive response I've seen for this everywhere. It's like an even weaker version of that 14 Shades/Chapter V era.

Good review, but still. It just won't click for me.

Album is trash. Everything sounds so half assed and so run of the mill to me. I would even take Illusion of Progress over this. Should've just called it after their self titled.

yeah its bad, some bands just need to retire so we can relive the good times on previous albums, this ruined the band for me. Dysfunction was great and Break The Cycle was close to being as good but Aaron lost his vibe, good singer but retire early. Learn from ISIS ffs.

14 shades is good

chapter v is less good

they aren't the same era and don't have the same sound palette at all

1 mid song on 14 and V was not memorable, sad

saying illusion of progress > this is pure contrarianism though

or an attempt to hammer the point home that you don't like it

regardless this one does more stuff than that one on every front

you should probably never base your judgement by "better by comparison" this is bad and so were the last few albums, it is what it is

Chapter V is their 2nd best album after Break the Cycle and most staind fans rate it highly so I don't get the shade thrown at it here, but opinions I guess, it was a step up from the career suicide attempt of 13 shades of grey which has many of the problems that this album has....no effort and terrible production.

chapter v's thin tinny production that doesn't accentuate any atmospheric element or mesh with aaron's voice or add any chunkiness to the guitarwork is its major downfall

this doesn't have that problem

The guitar tone is excellent on here. Most of this is really boring though.

"The production is fucking amazing on this album"

Not sure if this is a troll comment but great if you think so.

I'm listening on the Sony wh-1000xm4 headphones through hi Def Streaming app and it's muddy and guitars are too loud in the mix.

Yeah I wouldn't say the production is great on Chapter V defo a bit flat and I totally understand why people wouldn't like it because it's an album for the fans.

Anyway just glad their back but their previous album was like a much better version of this. The melodies really shined thru, it was well recorded and was their heaviest since dysfunction

It’s a truthful comment. I listened in the car yesterday and the recordings were crystal clear but didn’t sound overly fake or anything like that. The guitars had a big kick but didn’t take away from anything else. Immaculate production!

I didn't expect a masterpiece and it isn't. Even there are 13 years between the last record and "Confessions..." there is not much of an improvement or musical progress.

The sound is pretty bad, you can't hear the different instruments in the mix.

Some nice songs, some mediocre stuff, pretty middle of the road with only 10 songs and a running time just over half an hour. It could have been a bit more after this long hiatus.

"13 years between"

One may say it's been awhile.

Going back over the albums I listened to this year and this is probably the blandest of them all. A few half decent hooks but that's about it. Production-wise, lyric-wise, just profoundly uninteresting

staind was always buttrock

the production is annoying because they make everything muddy for fake heavy darkness but it’s buttrock so i’m fine with it
