don’t have a problem with the vocals, but definitely think they could have exercised some restraint with the track listing. feels like the album should kick off with Your Shy Heart for a tight 30 min album or something. Concrete Boys I actively dislike, the rest of the first half is kinda ineffective for me

The album is greater than the sum of its parts. That said, the last two tracks are definitely in their own league.

Oh man... I do agree that the second half is better than the first, but songs like Bright and Contrazoom are super good in my eyes. I can see how Concrete Boys could be divisive, even though it totally works for me, though.

This was very good but after several listens I feel like I'm failing to connect with something many of you are. I would like to cut 10 to 15 minutes of ambience from this thing

Ah, so this is where the waiting room for There Will Be Fireworks' upcoming album is at! Really happy to find this review along with its warm recommendations to us fans of the scottish indie sound.
I've given the album quite a few spins and I instantly fell in love with the vibe and atmosphere - just as you thought I would! Though, it fails to deliver much more than that comforting feeling of being within familiar a soundscape in which I feel at home. Too many of the tracks fall a bit too flat and the lyrics have failed to resonate with me. Big ups for its many varied elements. Will continue to digest this through the rest of the year, hoping to be able to discover something I've missed.

Just bumped down my rating a few points - this is very good and will probably make my top ten for the year, but has grown off on me a tad from where it was as a strong AOTY contender. Anyways, after the dust settled, here's my track ranking:
1. No One Ever Knows Anyone
2. Ghosts
3. Bright
4. The Concrete Boys (Take Heed)
5. Scene
6. Contrazoom
7. Autumn '08
8. Go
9. Vapour Nails
10. Your Shy Heart
11. Et Tu
12. Brilliant Things
13. Foogi

The crescendo of Ghosts is so fucking good. Honestly, if the rest of the tracklist was to the standard of Bright, The Concrete Boys (Take Heed), Ghosts and Scene, the album would easily be a strong 4.5 or 5.

It's rare (actually, it's never happened) that I completely agree with a review but I do in this case. Solid album with a few tracks being a little less good. It almost seems a little more like a followup album by TWBFW than Summer Moon has turned out to be. Anyway, great review Sunnyvale.
