the main things that stick out in that paragraph that's just kinda factually incorrect is a) this band had multiple drummers in between the rev and brooks and b) while i get the point you're trying to make, a7x is nowhere near metallica or nickleback's level of popularity (didn't they even open for metallica during the hardwired cycle???). replace them with like slipknot and that sentence makes much more sense.

I mean there was Portnoy, Arin... but Brooks feels like the first LONG-TIME followup

I feel like Slipknot still had some creative juice left in the tank (We Are Not Your Kind, and a few things off the new album) but tbf so did Nickelback (Feed the Machine) before going back to the safe route. Metallica just sound washed now.

It's basically long form for "A7X could be playing it safe and becoming a tribute act, but they're not content with that, and that can be frustrating at times for some."

That makes no sense. Why would people be frustrated that A7X is NOT phoning it in?

A lot of people just want the nostalgia pop - see: everyone hyped when Metallica releases the same album as the last. And certain things like the NFTs are just "why".

Brooks is a better drummer than The Rev. Way more interesting grooves and fills.

So if I've thought this band has been dogshit since WtF and mostly enjoy WtF for its place in og token metalcore history/for nostalgia I definitely should not bother with this right?

Rather listen to Sleep Token perform literally anything than to hear M Shadows fuckin whine at me over boring riffs/80s metal worship.

I haven't even thought about this band in years. I never really even got into them when they were in their 'prime' I never got into them. Always seemed like they were trying to hard.
