Kinda surprised at the high avg. I enjoy this but it’s very standard and predictable for what it is. Lots of bands out there cranking out identical albums. If anyone has never listened to If I Am Only My Thoughts by Loving, that is leaps and bounds above this imo. Not quite as upbeat but pretty and relaxing affffff

I really like that Loving album, great warm-weather jam, but don't see much similarity to this record (albeit I've only heard this one once). They're both very chill, but otherwise wouldn't put them in the same category.

Loved Somersault. Still love Somersault.
This one just hasn't gotten me yet. I wanted to be more excited as the singles dropped. There are a few moments but it just isn't the best follow-up to that last album I was referring to, Somersault. That thing is a masterpiece! That said, the ol' vibe-o-meter is allowing more time to process before making a complete decision. Also, read your review yesterday - good review but you definitely hyped those summer vibes that I wasn't necessarily picking up during my first listens. Hoping the ol' vibe-o-meter picks up some good vibes soon - Happy Summer everyone

this is some of the most vapid shit i've ever heard, but like in a mostly good way???

sounds a *lot* like the kind of indie that was big when chillwave was a thing about 10 years ago. v v similar to Real Estate (which was a big comfort jam for me at that time)
nice but find it kind of irritating and can't put my finger on why exactly

"This is like the sunny/upbeat Cigarettes After Sex"
was about to shoot this take down but then had a skim of the lyrics. not nearly as icky as CAS but similar themes and slightly ott earnestness

love the second track on this. i do dig beach fossils this way, same as somersault, where they feel like they're hiding behind the form and style less, and bringing themselves to the forefront. it feels more personal
that said, i'm not feeling quite as dazzled by these tunes or interested in what he's singing about for that matter. gonna give some more time b/c it does sound to me like they're more subdued and may take some time to grow. but this album kind of just sounds like a mixture of mazzy star and real estate, whereas somersault sounded unique to me

This is one of those albums which doesn't do anything particularly exceptional, but executes what it does near-perfectly. Digging it.

Vacations, Triptides, Real Estate, Wild Nothing, Rolling Blackouts, DIIV, Saccades, The Cactus Channel. I like all of these bands but they’re all doing more or less the same thing

Wild take. I get those songs stuck in my head on at least a weekly basis even if I haven’t listened in months
