to me he sounds like a mix of Danny, Kendrick, Saba and even Joba from brockhampton on this lol. which is impressive enough for a debut but also those are some annoying voices without moderation and I'd like to hear him develop his own style more
idk how to describe it. like Danny objectively sounds annoying af but he's one of the best around at putting a full album together. it makes the voice sound deliberate and purposeful where this dude is just doing stuff to do stuff. the end of the last track for example is just insufferable, FOCUSED is great tho

im just rounding off a second listen and first off, though i think there is certainly some kendrick influence, i do think that directly comparing him to ken and nothing else is pretty disingenuous and uncharitable. There are a lot of apparent influences to his pitch, cadence, and flow etc, and I as far as ~tone~ go I don't actually think he sounds like Kendrick at all unless you really minimize the comparison to a reference point of Kendrick having an inexplicable monopoly over annoying high pitched flows lol.
Rowan i think is more on the nose with the wider variety of influences conjoining. In fact, I hear more direct comparisons to Danny and Saba than to Kendrick. Danny and ICECOLDBISHOP both often adopt that almost southern influenced over-enunciated twang that is ironic considering neither of them are from southern states. For Saba, I think a particular point of reference is the goofy layered synth-funk inspired vocals that appear on Fearmonger and a lot of Flying Lotus's vocal tracks (think thundercat or george clinton feats). I don't know what to call this vocal style and wish there was a term for it but I think the direct root of both the Danny Brown and Saba influences is a style that was more popularized in hip-hop by Outkast than anything, and probably originated from p-funk. Annoying/insufferable or no, I think he channels enough influences to have a very well-rounded style with his own twist that deserves more consideration than lazy single-note comparisons. And the fact that many of these influences aren't rooted in the same pool of influence as those of his production choices makes for a pretty unique overall product.

This has been on repeat the last few days for me, keeps getting better with every listen. Quality beats, and his vocal range/energy is great

yeah the energy/mood is great and what I'm missing in a lot of what is going on in american hip-hop right now without going too far into trap territory. which is why i've been following uk hip-hop more (not the same vibe as this at all but just preferring the direction its taken with heavy boom bap influence and really dark and cheeky sensibilities that just has that oomph)

Probably my only gripe with the record is the mix on Out The Window, when the sub line hits the high note in line it squashes the entire rest of the mix, not really sure how they let that get passed before the release

I think the Kendrick influences are definitely there but Pots you're right that maybe they're exaggerated. Telling my friends about this album I've named Kendrick, Danny Brown, and even some Vince Staples.

I tried not to hone in on Kendrick alone, I think he's definitely a blend of quite a few different artists and their styles
tbh I'm salty the dude is influenced by and namedrops Suga Free and Drifter is NOWHERE to be found ;^(

Yeah I didn’t really know what to expect from this since the only track I had ever heard him on was the one he’s on on Bo Jackson. He almost reminds me of mystikal on that one with his delivery.

This is pretty out of left field tbh, his only recording history until now was a bunch of features. This is quite the banger of a debut.
