There are a few songs here I can see myself returning to, but overall I find it hard to enjoy, although I appreciate the whole project and execution.

are you a fan of their earlier works?

I listened more to the 2010's stuff than earlier works. Fabulous Muscles is the album I enjoyed most from the 2000s stuff. The Air Force and A Promise were great overall too.

Knife Play is their masterpiece, everyone should hear it at least once (preferably in dim lighting / late at night). I think Angel Guts is under-appreciated, but yeah, that ‘older’ Xiu Xiu era is the one I love the most.
Fabulous Muscles needs a revisit mind, I remember it being fairly tame for them.

🤔 no this is definitely very good. Consistent vibe and mostly pretty well executed with a few standout moments. Esquerita, Little Richard is an obvious highlight and I really dig the Pahrump into Border Factory combo
When all’s said and done I can’t imagine it’ll be top tier Xiu Xiu, but I like it for offering an alternative to their past works, whilst still retaining a sense of self. This certainly feels like a Xiu Xiu album, just not as we previously knew them.

I find it uneven in comparison. Knife Play sustains my interest throughout, it has more of a consistent atmosphere. Air Force is damn good regardless, if occasionally (charmingly) wonky. There are just levels to this Potsy.

No worries. I can’t be expected to read all 5(?) pages of the Air Force thread for your takes, so it’s good that they’ve been summarised here

I have to relisten to Knife Play, it's been a while. They are now miles away from those records sound-wise. Angel Guts has some awesome tracks, need to go back to it too.

Knife Play better than A Promise and Fabulous Muscles?

Fab Mus ain’t even all that tbh, prefer pretty much any Xiu Xiu I’ve heard outside of a couple of the more recent records

I want to like it more for the ‘trolling morons’ element it satisfyingly provides, yet I’ve never really connected with it like I have their others. Thematically it’s bold, but musically, possibly not? Yeah 🤷🏻, that’s how I remember it anyway, been a few years since I revisited.

Mmmmm new Xiu Xiu discussion @ Sputnik, what is this, 2008? I wasn't able to connect much with their output in the last decade but maybe I'll try jump back in, provided this still isn't too esoteric for my tastes.

It’s mostly just me talking to myself, but yeah this is a different approach to their last few. Worth a go at least

ngl this record is kinda arse so far. Opener and Pahrump have something to them, but that's about it. wouldn't take it over any of the last 3 - even Girl With A Basket Of Fruit had a hyperridiculous edge to it that I feel this one lacks

This is recklessly experimental in the same way a bucket with two handles is.
