always nice to see a Nujabes write up. dude is still criminally underrated.
|
| |
He is most certainly not underrated in any capacity
His legacy gets every bit of recognition and praise it deserves (which is a lot)
|
| |
yeah I found him through Samurai Champloo which is definitely not obscure. and that show is directly related to Cowboy Bebop, which is one of the most well received shows ever, let alone animes

Not underrated yeah. More niche, perhaps, but even that has changed significantly in the last decade or so
|
| |
his music is a bit niche by definition because it’s basically a prerequisite to be into both hip hop and Japanese culture to really dig it

tbqh i think he's got way above average outreach by the standards of either. the whole lofi/study beats crowd care more about situational background jams than straight hip-hop and nujabes' e-popularity is too broad to be specific to japanophile circles (not that he ain't prized there)
found it interesting and kinda cool that my gf had no idea who he was until she moved to london and someone on her course got her into him - defs feel that he has strong enough western name recognition not to lean too heavily if at all on the j-factor
but whatever, time to jam this again

Yeah can’t say i agree that one would need to be into Japanese culture to really dig Nujabes

I am summoned from the grave. Outstanding labour-of-love write-up!!!

tfw no gf (gluten-free)

Nujabes is so tied to anime for me that it’s hard to separate the two. I listen to nujabes and I want to watch Samurai Champloo, I watch Samurai Champloo and I want to listen to nujabes.
|
| |
if you like nujabes and haven't watched samurai champloo you are missing tf out. imagine watching a show with plentiful action all choreographed around nujabes beats. cuz that's exactly what it is and it fucks hard
opening theme is still my fav nujabes song
