I’ve noticed an increase in guest vocalists lately with these kind of revisited albums.

I like it, just wish they cut loose a little more with the idea

I’m actually really surprised at how well this came out. I was expecting more of an alt rock redo in the style of of Palms or To Be Everywhere is to be Nowhere, but they did well in both new and old with this, it’s great stuff.

I enjoyed this. It’s so interesting to hear the band play these songs twenty years later. It’s not perfect, but there are some special moments on here. Specifically, “The Melting Point of Wax”.
I also think the guest vocalists were handled perfectly. They’re noticeable, they add to the songs, yet they’re not overbearing.

Now they just need to do it again.
So they can say they did it Thrice.

Came in here just to say that a re-recorded Destroy Erase Improve would be dope.

I mean if you're gonna re-work a classic album, this is the perfect example on how to fucking do it.

I came here expecting nothing. Once I started listening I simply couldn't stop and paid close attention to the individual instruments the whole way through. They pulled it off pretty well, I'd say. Hopefully they borrow some inspiration from this for some future release.

Breckenridge bros shine on this one

"As far as production value goes it sounds great, but it's missing so much of the energy and excitement of the original. Matured? sure, and in some parts it arguably works better, but I feel like the charm of the original is totally lost here."
This exactly. Og Artist of the Ambulance is huge product of its time - shit was perfectly in line with early 00s brickwalled angst and, imperfect as it v much was, the og mix caught that feeling of paranoia, emotional overload and burgeoning postmodern malaise (as per literally every other lyric) perfectly. Shit was appropriately claustro. The cleaner mix is cute and it's nice to hear individual performances, but this also puts the spotlight v clearly on the band being 20 yrs older, especially Dustin. Guy's harshes are out of patrol more times than not, opener in particular tanks hard and there's something uncanny about hearing songs this overtly cagey rebirthed by folks who clearly (and understandably) don't embody the same impulses anymore.
This is a cool rendition of the notes-on-the-page etc., but imo anyone who calls it an overall improvement has missed the point of what made it so special to begin with

I posted this on the original thread but I guess it belongs here:
I could never listen to Illusion or Artist because of Dustin’s voice so hearing these songs with his matured voice is like getting a new album for me. I enjoy it. Nice to hear Teppei play outside of some of the patterns he’s fallen into over the years.
It feels very clear listening to this that if I was a fan of the original I would have a hard time with this though - there was no need to play this album with the same realm of low gain tones they’ve been using since Beggars. Its also impossible to recapture youthful energy and earnestness which I’m assuming were a big part of what people liked about those albums.
From the band’s POV I can see why they wanted to do this. This material fits into their newer sound better than I would have expected, whereas an album like Illusion wouldn’t have translated. It gives them a chance to show how their progression is more of a natural progression than it might seem at first

The guest features I think are intentionally downplayed. They probably didn’t want them to feel like a gimmick and really wanted this re-recording to feel like how they play the songs live now as a band. Probably just a fun opportunity to have some of their friends sing on some songs that they enjoyed too coming up without changing the feel too much
