I'll take the occasion to remind that if you hunt down a CD you get a bonus song called Quiet Evenings. (technically limited to the first 700 CDs according to Discogs? I bought mine aaaages ago)

New side-project by M (vocals, guitar, keyboards in AAFCC) and another person referred as J. It's more directly black metalish than the main band: https://anautumnforcrippledchildren.bandcamp.com/album/withered-and-forgotten

Dang, this is my fav blackgaze album ever. It's shoegaze af and I love those tortured bm vox, downright mean in places. And the drums and bass can be both so catchy ugh, this album and band are so made precisely for me.
"Closer" is such an awesome song, I jammed it so much. Love it rhythmically especially the part from ~1:30 onwards with the ghost(?) notes and the melodic guitarwork.
But if I had to pick a favorite, today (it changes haha) it's probably "Never Complete". It sounds... huge, to me. And the raspy wailing (like ~0:55), man. It's all so intense for me

If they took the keys out I'd probably dig a lot more. I found them really distracting and awkwardly mixed. Definitely appreciate the vox and the melodies tho.

Ah I see, that looks like a deal breaker. I love the use of synths especially in the post-punkier songs (like "The Light of September") or in general to broaden the stage like here. The intro of "The Woods Are on Fire" makes me feel like I'm staring down a valley or something. Idk this band makes me dramatic 😆
Fav synth bit in this album could be in Avoiding Winter at ~3:30 when the little melody from the quiet bridge comes back
