Yeah idk. It seemed very pandering. Times change, I understand not wanting to offend people when mores shift e.g. AC changing HERE COMES THE INDIAN to ARK as the misnomer "Indian" has garnered more and more rightful scrutiny (though I think there's an actual debate among Indigenous peoples about whether this term is truly offensive or not but that's another story I guess) but the change from Girl Band -> Gilla Band makes no sense to me. They said they didn't want/mean to offend anyone (understandable) but...I'm not sure anyone was actually offended?? I don't think a single person took their name as some veiled attempt to poke fun at transgendered people. But the way they wrote their apologia made it sound as though they'd been put through the ringer despite zero public evidence that anyone had an issue with it.



At the end of the day, though, I simply though the name GIRL BAND was hard. GILLA BAND, by comparison, is almost impressively lame.
