I've read comments on social media from people that don't like how this isn't "metal" enough. My interpretation of the band is that they aren't strictly trying to be metal, but more like metal-fused prog-rock.

In that sense it reminds me of some of Porcupine Tree's work, particularly 'In Absentia' (I know this album doesn't sound like "IA" but still). I think this album's great and agree they've succeeded in blending different styles together.

I'm enjoying this a lot. Neat review, too.

In terms of comparisons, certain moments remind me of Anathema, or rather what they could sound like if they made songs combining their early albums with the newer style, sprinkled with tiny drops of The Gathering.

Yus, this is better than Bridging Realms! Some really cool bass work too

Oh great this is one of those threads where my comments got deleted. Still, hell of an album. The prog fusion with extreme metal is really well done.
