Lots of conflicting thoughts on 2010 being a high point for indie overall but I will say I think it was kind of the last time the indie scene could get away with ignoring its own trajectory towards exclusivity and catering to festivalgoers/tastemakers/misc. other group of financially stable people who want to feel hip

imo this is a big reason why the bits of social commentary here work so much better than subsequent attempts: there's no sense of obligation, of having to make a statement and prove they have Good Views or whatever. It feels like it comes from a really personal and earnest place whereas most of their stuff reflektor onwards strikes me as very self-conscious and insecure about how the band is perceived

Hadn't really thought about it that way, but I think there's something to that, Kompys. Interesting stuff.
