Going thru their discography, this definitely stands out as a major change in sound, with folk elements completely toned down. Tho I do think that it is a step in the right direction, don't know why folks don't like this new Wilderun.

Their best album Hawks

Read some pretty scathing threads when this came out, disney-metal and the usual dismissives. Definitely influenced it's impact on me which was mostly ambivalent. Symphonic+Folk is rather queer coupling.

The folk influence, for me at least, is a lot less prevalent on their latest 2 albums (especially this one). Which I definitely think is an improvement.
Still dripping in atmosphere though.

They call this Disney Metal then go on to hail Ghost as the best thing since sliced bread

I think it's a pretty great album, though a slight let down from Veil of Imagination. The reason might be that they put concept over ebb and flow on this one, whereas Veil captured flow perfectly.

I still wish I enjoyed this more. Kind of bummed this hasn't hit me, I've given it at least a dozen listens

Album is insanely underrated, the first half especially doesn't miss.
Anyone calling this Disney metal is going off their older albums and hasn't actually listened to this one, lots of dark and discordant parts

Still gotta jam. First 2 albums kick ass, but the one before this is baaaddddd.
