sounds like someone is too woke to fully appreciate this album

"Here, the record takes shots at social media, cancel culture, government censorship, and the overall violations of human rights via limiting free speech, topics that every Fox News watcher/Trump supporting sweaty, obese white guy in their 50s or 60s often cry about."
3.5 great

It’s a pretty dumb quote. Either he’s implying human rights don’t matter much or the left just doesn’t care about them. Both are wrong 😬

this is actually not bad, but my god these interludes are terrible and completely detract from my enjoyment of the album

Enjoyed the first half of the album, but the second half fell away a bit and all those interludes are beyond worthless.

If you like Shinedown but aren't into the interludes, I created a playlist for myself that turns the album into more of a "standard Shinedown record". It's the same songs re-ordered and minus the interludes. I also chopped off 'What You Wanted' because it's a pointless closer and moved 'Hope' into its place, where I think it works much better.

I have a personal one that's pared down even further (to a lean 10 track LP), because I think Dead Don't Die and Dysfunctional You, while decent songs, don't really fit in with the political "theme" or whatever, so if you agree then just chop those from the existing playlist above and you basically have a real concept album that works without cheesy interludes or terrible curtain-calls, whether or not you agree with the message.

I was really excited to dive into this album, as I respect the hard work this band puts into their music, writing, and creativity. But... wow... I had to turn it off. I thought the material was 'awful'. Peace!

was unsure exactly how to rate this right until the string arrangement on the closer barrelled on. yikes welcome warning delete wow

Yeah that's probably the worst closer the band has ever made. They could have done anything and they did that.

Sounds like a pass based on the themes you outlined. Anyone that intends to make a serious political album that talks about "cancel culture" is a hack.

Review is well written, but I knew the writer wouldn't be able to resist boxing in the right. If you don't realize that there's an active effort to take free speech away then you're a lost cause at this point.
Also, this is Shinedowns best work since Sound of Madness.

That first single was enough for me to stay away from this. Shame they really fell off after Sound of Madness.

“Brent - Why do we call it America Burning, because it was burning! I look at that also too for the people who take all of the privileges of this country and everything that this country gives you by being an American citizen. This is the only country where you can literally burn the flag and not have your head cut off or go to jail”
