Sounds way more inspired than anything on their previous album

If these guys feel inspired they can easily write the best metal album of the year, and I do believe that this one could be it for me.

Boris will probably be better tbh

i only really got into these guys in the last week or two with UROBOROS and this album did nothing but solidify the awe and excitement i felt from listening to that initial record.
that tidal wave of a chorus on "Oboro" hits me hard every time and i adore that slight hint of post-punk/shoegaze on "Kamuy"

So far I really like it musically. But oh my god the mix/master is atrocious, one of their worst sounding albums from a sonic perspective. Everything is horrifically compressed and overly loud. Why couldn't they get Alan Douches to master for them again instead of fucking Brian Gardner (who also brickwalled Insulated World). Why do bands do this? Sure it sounds fine in a car or on your phone, but play it on anything resembling a decent setup and its the biggest letdown ever.

Nah it sounds bad in my car too

Why in the world would you compare Boris to Dir en grey? They sound absolutely nothing alike. That's like comparing Sleep to Strapping Young Lad, both great, but they're writing completely different types of music. Did you just do that because they're both Japanese?

I remember when this band was part of the key movement and was mostly associated with the otaku-anime phenomenon.

Uh I’m not comparing them
Faraudo said this might be his metal album of the year and I said I thought Boris will be better cause it’s coming out soon and I’m hype for it, that’s literally all I said

DEG visual kei years were great, but they really hit their stride when they dropped that look around withering era

This would be rated higher if not for the production, same guy as TIW I take it? Brickwalled to the max.
Hate to be that guy but it really does take away from the more intense moments on here.

I've been enjoying this a lot so far, great to hear Diru return to form after the last album.
I've always had a gripe with their mixes but I agree this is among one of their worst, although I still feel The Insulated World tops this as far as bad production goes.

Dan Lancaster is not producing this one believe it or not.

This is a very old-school sounding death metal band, and you could almost mistake the vocalist, Alejandro Cruz, for the refined vocals of Martin Van Drunen (Pestilence). I did not expect this from such a young band. This sounds ridiculously good and it is my top pick of 2022. Thank you very much. Get Dir En Grey out of there!
