First off, yes, this is very complex material. If one is turned off because of this element, then one shouldn't even be listening to extreme music in the first place.

Another thing that concerns the complexity; Yes, there have been thousands of tech bands in the past and present, but only a few that can be safely said as "good" (and the few who transcend all musical realms). The scorching riffs and the frenetic battery may pass over those who don't give two shits about detail or structure and complain that "it's just a blur of pyrotechnics", but when listened to carefully, one will be suddenly enlightened by the impressive array of dynamics and the range of emotions sonically captured within these 9 tracks (which bring to mind certain classical composers, namely Wagner, in their sweeping, epic pantheons crafted out of the extreme metal paradigm).

There is more repetition than meets the eye (or the ears for that matter); Just warranting one's full attention for the mere 9 tracks (first few times to soak in the atmosphere, then to dissect the irregular time signatures once one grasps the elongated phrasings) will bring in a sense of enlightenment.

There's some intricacies here that make a bigger impact potentially on subsequent listens but frankly, even my first impression of this was "uber-techy and chaotic early ATG/Liers in Wait" and I was loving every second of it

the only reason i would buy this is to use the booklet as toilet paper, the jewel case as a coaster, and the cd itself as skeet

I'd love a remaster as much as the next guy but I wouldn't hold my breath for one, unfortunately.
