This is a killer album. It easily could have been an Alice In Chains album. The self title song is great

I think connecting with batareziz over a completely random obscure movie quote was the highlight of 2022 for me

oh I really wish I liked this that much, and I really, really disagree about the “could’ve been an Alice In Chains album” bit.
Alice flirts with country from time to time, Scalpel being the most obvious example, but aside from that, those moments are so few and far between. And there’s absolutely nothing here that comes close to the heavier and sludgy tracks that they have, even if we’re just counting William era Alice. Nothing like A Looking in View, Drone, or So Far Under. If anything it feels like Jerry is really picking up where he left off with his solo records over 20 years ago.
I know Jerry is the main songwriter for Alice these days, but I can’t help but feel that he maybe should’ve had input from others. He legitimately has an incredible group of musicians here, but I feel like they bring absolutely nothing to the table aside from just being the “backing band”. Very tight performances, but lacking any personality.

new album is called "I Want Blood" and the new single sounds exactly like what I want to listen to from Jerry
this was okay but I want heavy Cantrell to quench my Alice in Chains thirst

"I just noticed that the cover might be a callback to Jar of Flies."
Had this be advertised as Jar of Flies 2 I'm sure the average would be higher. and now that I read your comment it makes a lot of sense since this kinda harkens back to that EP

eh I don’t think the songwriting is nearly as strong. Plus, as much as I love him, Jerry ain’t Layne. There’s no moment in his discography where I’ve been like blown away by his vocals. Nothing like that last verse in Don’t Follow or anything.
Still if I were to rank it all out, Degradation Trip is probably my third favorite thing he’s done behind Dirt and Jar of Flies
There’s some really solid tracks here tho, I like Atone, and Black Hearts and Evil Done and Siren Song are fucking excellent. Really like the Elton cover too. Rest of it is pretty forgettable imo

Haven’t seen anyone mention the fact that Had to Know is the most toothless rock song I’ve ever heard from Jerry. I was bummed when I found out there was only one “heavier” song on the record and even more bummed when I listened to it and it sucked
Vilified already out did this record on that front. I’m loving this track. If the whole record is that style I really wonder if he wrote all of these songs at the same time and planned on doing another double album

"There’s no moment in his discography where I’ve been like blown away by his vocals."
Good point. But still, this is the closest Jerry has ever come close to the style of Jar of Flies though clearly not remotely close in terms of songwriting/performance.
"Haven’t seen anyone mention the fact that Had to Know is the most toothless rock song I’ve ever heard from Jerry."
If you cut "Had to Know" and "Nobody Breaks You" this would have been a very nice EP. Not much of a fan of "Prism of Doubt" but at least it goes for a different "happier" vibe for Jerry. Rest is pretty enjoyable imo

Anyone else think the production is kinda weak on the new singles?
Like after multiple listens I’ve grown to like it but god the chorus on I Want Blood sounds like a fucking mess
