@sow/gnoc
thanks a lot guys. appreciated.
yeah, def give the band's earlier work a spin sow, it's great stuff. they've had a rocky couple of decades post meds, but this is honestly back to form material

I'm one of those few people who enjoy their entire discography, including their last two records. A bit uneven sure, but there were some great tracks on them.
The Sleeping w/ Ghosts & Meds one-two punch is incredible though.

This is DEFINITELY their best for some time. For me it's up there with BMM just behind the first two, and the songs I disliked on the first listen are growing on me. Maybe the only knock is there is no killer single like The Bitter End, Every You Every Me, Nancy Boy, Slave To The Wage etc.
Molko sounds fresh.. and oddly young.

Agree with the consensus here, best since SWG/Meds but in no way at the same level. The fact that every sentence is repeated 2 or 3 times in every song is not helping.

That's exactly why I lowered the score. The lyrics are the weakest aspect here

singles sounded great, definitely checking this one out soon

Seems like a strange thing to complain about when they've been doing this since their first album.

Agreed, but it never bothered me as much as on this album, idk why.

as far as annoying repeated lyrics in one song go, battle for the sun t/t reigns as the undefeated champ
can't stand it

THIS SEARCH FOR MEANING IS KILLING ME
I'm a bit obsessed with Surrounded by Spies, top song.

The review got me into checking this out. Never been a big Placebo fan, but they have some nice songs.

I heard Every You and Every Me in the early 2000s and could not stand the singer's voice.

So, all this time the drummer was the problem?

Good to see these fuckers back!

The single bangs pretty hard, wow.

I'll always be down for new Placebo, this band was monumentally important to me as a teenager. Their first couple of albums still feel a little underappreciated.

"Their first couple of albums still feel a little underappreciated"
Yes. Probably due to the divisiveness of the vocals and lyrics. For me, they really stood out in the Britpop crowd of the mid-90s and did their own thing really effectively. First two albums were amongst the best of the decade. Placebo is my favourite because of its rawness and freshness, but WYIN is probably the "better" album.
